Find Your Care

Since the Medical Aid in Dying for the Terminally Ill Act became effective on August 1, 2019, many patients requesting medical aid in dying of their physicians were not able to initiate the process because their physicians were not informed, comfortable, ready or supportive. These patients had to resort to trial and error; contacting multiple physicians in the state, sometimes as many as 30-40, before finding a supportive physician willing to prescribe. Many were not able to fulfill their wishes of a planned death, as they either became ineligible or died before the process could be completed.

New Jersey Death with Dignity was started in part to be able to provide patients seeking aid in dying a confidential referral to a supportive physician in a timely fashion.

We have also compiled a list of hospices, which can greatly aid in the selection of a hospice program that will support the patient through their planned death.

How to access medical aid in dying

Start a conversation with your physician about your end-of-life options including medical aid in dying.

If your own physician is unable to provide you with the process required for medical aid in dying, request a referral to a participating (prescribing) physician.

If your physician is unable to do so, contact us at info@njdeathwithdignity.org and (after a brief screening) we will provide you with a list of qualified physicians who can help you navigate through the process and prescribe the MAID medications. All of our physicians have been carefully vetted and are able to provide you with the utmost compassionate care. Many will offer you virtual visits no matter where you live in New Jersey and work with your insurance as many private insurance carriers cover those visits.

Our goal is to provide every qualified resident of New Jersey access to medical aid in dying, regardless of their circumstances.
